Dr. Paul K. Chafetz ​

Since 1982, Dr. Chafetz has provided expert psychological services to adults in Dallas. He trained in clinical psychology at the University of Florida, Duke University Medical Center, and the Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences.  

His comfortable office is conveniently located in Dallas, near Central Expressway (I-75) and Walnut Hill.

Dr. Chafetz’ mission is to empower adults to continue growing and improving themselves and their lives through greater psychological skill. Dr. Paul believes that the reason life is often hard is to help us continue learning, and that LEARNING IS GROWING!   He believes that, whether we are in our 20s, 40s, 60s, or 80s, no matter what adjustment life is asking us to make, we can and should learn new skills and Grow Into It!

Dr. Chafetz's training in adult and geriatric mental health includes:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology from Brown University
  • PhD in clinical psychology and certificate in gerontology from the University of Florida
  • Clinical psychology internship at Duke University Medical Center
  • Post-doctoral fellowship in clinical gero-psychology at the Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences, Houston

  • Has over 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist.
  • Was faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for 20 years.
  • Has spoken to professional or public audiences about psychology over 300 times.
  • Is the only psychologist in the D/FW area who has completed a postdoctoral fellowship in gero- psychology.
  • Has published over 35 professional or scientific articles.
  • Is a member of the Dallas Psychological Association (DPA) Texas Psychological Association (TPA), and American Psychological Association (APA).
  • Has twice been president of the Dallas Psychological Association (DPA), and is the founding director of the Dallas Gero-Psychological Symposium.
  • Has been a consultant in the care of persons with dementia such as Alzheimer's disease at facilities across the country.
