Lifelong human psychological development
As late as the 1970's, the term "developmental psychology" referred to the growth of infants, children, and adolescents only. The belief was that adulthood was period of uneventful constancy followed in late life by inevitible decline.
We now know, fortunately, that psychological growth and development are lifelong processes. Throughout adulthood, as in earlier stages, predictable issues emerge, bringing normal and new learning opportunities. Life looks and feels quite different at age 20, age 40, age 60, etc. In other words, we continue throughout adulthood to improve! For example, intelligence does not peak until about at 60. Also, adults become ever more skilled at maintaining a content mood and maintaining satisfying relationships.
In short, life is a long journey of exciting discovery and continual learning through a normal and healthy series of predictable life challenges. There is always something to look forward to, because WE LEARN OUR WAY THROUGH LIFE.
